Robert Davis, the patriarch of the store, started the business in 1956 as a conventional hardware store. He and wife, Sherry, were both born and raised in Houston's Heights area, attending Reagan High School.

Davis Hardware is now owned and operated by Robert Davis' daughter and son-in-law, Karry and Tony Mader, along with their son Michael. The shop has expanded over the years and now features original works of art, ready-made frames, unique gift items, and over 3,000 custom frame selections.
